In searching for some ideas for Monday’s excruciating 100 Words theme, I ran across this music meme: 70 Music Questions. Well, as you can see from reading that list, some of those questions are utter shite, so I’ve pared it down to the most interesting 25. As always with the memes, if you choose to skip reading this one you won’t miss anything important…
1. What are you listening to right now?
“Land of 1000 Dances” – Wilson Pickett
2. What song makes you sad?
“How Much I Feel” – Ambrosia
It’s that one line, “Sometimes when we make love I still see your face.” It’s just so SAD.
3. What is the most annoying song in the world?
The most annoying song…I have to pick just ONE??? Ok, then well narrow the criteria to songs I actually let play all the way through (which effectively eliminates almost all rap music), and the winner would have to be “My Humps” by the Black Eyed Peas. The melody and tempo of the song are great. The lyrics make me want to gouge out my brain with a spork.
4. Your all time favorite band?
KC and the Sunshine Band. While I’m not really a child of the 70s, I still have a very soft spot for those disco bastards.
5. Your newly discovered band is?
Sarah Borges – Excellent melodies and a nice contralto voice.
6. Best female voice?
I’m going to have to break this up into Modern and Vintage.
Modern: Don’t laugh…Kelly Clarkson’s range is amazing, and she has the wind of a frigging distance runner.
Vintage: Julie London. Talk about TORCH singers.
7. Best male voice?
Same, there has to be a Modern and Vintage subcat here.
Modern: Michael Buble, only slightly edging out my beloved Harry Connick Jr., and my indie darling Rufus Wainwright.
Vintage: Going waaaay back, and since it’s the Christmas season, it has to be Perry Como.
8. Music type you find yourself listening to most?
Alternative rock.
9. What do you listen to, to hype you up?
10. What do you listen to, to calm down?
Classical…Ravel, Wagner, anything performed by Leonard Bernstein.
11. Last gig/concert you went to?
Jimmy Buffet, last year in Tampa. He puts on a hell of a show.
12. Band you find yourself listening to the most right now?
My Soul Boys: Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw and John Mayer. So white, yet so very soulful.
13. Most hated band?
Hinder, Nickelback, all of those fucking cookie-cutter bastards.
15. Band that you think the world should love as much as you do?
16. Ever dated a musician?
I wouldn’t call it “dating…”
17. If yes, what kind of music did he/she/they play/instrument/band?
70s classic rock.
18. What do you think of Classical music?
Adore it. No musical collection/education is complete without it. And all modern music owes it a debt, just as all modern literature owes to the bible/mythology.
19. What do you think of Country music?
It has it’s place. The last time I was in that place was 16 years ago, slap-ass drunk, watching my police officer boyfriend piss off an overpass onto a train down below.
20. What do you think of Death metal?
It’s noise for the sake of noise. And utter crap.
21. Worst concert moment?
Er…hm. I suppose Prince not bothering to play “1999” until the second encore…AFTER we’d already left. Prissy little bastard.
22. Best Concert moment?
Being serenaded with “Long Cool Woman in a (Blue) Dress.”
23. Have you met any famous musicians?
Bo Diddley at a tiny little bar in North Alabama.
24. Favourite movie sound track?
25. What song is stuck in your head right now?
“There’s a Carp in the Tub” by Robbie Schaefer. Screw you, XMKids! (Listen to it, I dare you.)
