
This is Ixia, a South African wildflower, also called Corn Lily: They come in a variety of colors and seem to love crappy soil, as we have here. I bought my bulbs from American Meadows. Other gorgeous bulbs:

Today’s bloom is one you’ve seen often around here, the Ming Toy Daylily: It’s odd that two colors I find excruciating together in anything else can be so very mouthwatering in a plant.

Today’s bloom is a favorite, just for sheer whimsy’s sake: This is the Bird of Paradise, and when open reminds me of a particularly colorful fox. Protip: To get them to bloom, feed them with a mild fertilizer every other week in spring and summer.

Today’s bloom is Calendula “Zeolights.” I was unfamiliar with this flower until Coriander slipped me some seed last year, but you can damnbet I’m going to be growing it every year from now on: Also known as “Pot Marigold” the petals are edible, and it makes a gorgeous dried flower.
