The Big Picture

My fren Caitlin says she wants to see the whooooole garden, and instead of telling her to drive her ass on down and have a look-see, I walk out back and snap a few pics.  Because I work from home, yes I do.  RULE.

Here’s the main area:

Up to the corner of the outside patio:

The long view down the backyard:

The three new planting boxes going in:

You can see the major problem we have down here is keeping the crap we don’t want out of the places we don’t want it.  The rose bed on the right was reworked last year, is going to have to be reworked again this year.  There’s no such thing as a permanent solution down here in the tropics.  Though I swear, mulching the entire area and putting in stepping stones between the boxes and roses is getting more and more appealing…

And finally, the pool enclosure, where most of the tomatoes live:

There, that should do you until you guys make the trip down…

    C’mon, it’s a damn 14-hour drive down there, or close to it. But we will make the trip eventually.

    Very nice pics – y’all are making the most of your yard. It’s making me rethink what we can do with our yard, even the parts that aren’t officially garden right now. The raised beds/boxes are looking pretty attractive.

    Are you going to keep track of how many pounds of veggies you get this year? I’m going to try… I want to know my square foot-to-pounds-of-food ratio.

    @Caitlin:

    It is the suckiest drive on the planet if you come down 65 and take I-10 across the nasty panhandle. But if you go to Atlanta instead and then come down I-75 it’s only about 11. WAY better, amIright? :) We plan on stopping for the night about halfway on the drive up to deliver kids to Nana here in a few weeks.

    We are indeed weighing harvests, writing all that down in my extremely-hard-to-search garden journal.

    I have such fence-envy now — the PRIVACY you guys have, compared to us — I can’t even express it, really.

    Beautiful yard and garden.

    @dogette:

    Oh surely you jest. The yard…bleh, the yard. That grass is pathetic, and I know it’s because we and the dog tromp all over it (the front is gorgeous thanks to Husband’s efforts). I’d just like to mulch that entire back area, honestly. It’d probably cost as much as the dang fence did, though.
