@Karen: If we'd known about Fortuniana rootstock when we'd lived up there, none of us would have ever had problems with blackspot.

@Penny Carnathan: Thanks

@*** Dave: Why does your sprinkler system have to be blown out? Is it not a closed system?

@Rick: We'd heard the reservoir had gone dry....the river, too?

@meems: Husband joked that we're experts now, we should do it for other people. At least I hope to xst he was joking. It's really easy, though, if you have questions just yell.

Wow... this was so great! I definitely need to do this. Even though I have an irrigation system throughout my landscape we are only allowed to use it once a week. Besides it doesn't do the job for the vegetable garden and the potted plants.

Thanks for taking the time to be so detailed!
Now... I just need to "find me a handy man." (Some frustrations just call for bad grammar).
Have a great day... your veggies are looking great, too.

On behalf of all the drought stricken Florida gardeners an the empty Hillsborough River, I offer thanks and praise for this article. You get point across and the links are a big help. This is part of our theme at http://floridafriendlyplants.com/Blog/ where we know that not wasting water is very important to all of us. You are one of my favorites....

Thanks for this very helpful post. A lot of us in Tampa are interested in micro-irrigation as water restrictions continue to tighten up. Your photos and clear explanations are great.

I had drip systems when I lived in Colorado, but avoided them when we moved to Colorado because of not enough spigots and concern as to whether they would work off of a sprinkler system that has to be blown out each fall.

As it turns out, they work fine. We installed one off a sprinkler under our high deck (since we wanted to put plants under there after the deck was replaced and expanded (and it does a great job. Our new terraced front yard also had drip hose installed in all the beds, which will be super-keen as we plant out in it.
