I saw (endured) it last night. I'd give it a C at best compared to the first installment. Even Hellboy didn't look right. His head was too big and his shoulders too small. It was waaay too long and as you mentioned, very few engaging scenes. Haven't been so disappointed in a film since Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead...but maybe that one's just me... ABSOLUTELY! But the chemo must be getting to him, he gave this one 3 1/2 stars and it was not even worth one. I'd like for somebody I know to see it though, so I can compare notes.
